Crazy, Stupid, Love. is a 2011 romantic comedy-drama film directed by Glenn Ficarra and John Requa, written by Dan Fogelman, starring Steve Carell, Ryan Gosling, Julianne Moore, Emma Stone, Marisa Tomei and Kevin Bacon. The film was released on July 29, 2011.

Plot

Cal Weaver (Steve Carell) is living the dream - he's got a good job, nice house, and great kids. Cal gets the surprise of his life when he learns his wife Emily (Julianne Moore) has been cheating on him with a coworker, David Lindhagen (Kevin Bacon), and wants a divorce. After moving into his own apartment, Cal begins grieving at a bar night after night talking to himself about his situation where he meets a young man named Jacob Palmer (Ryan Gosling). Jacob is a womanizer who successfully beds women each night, although he does take a particular interest in a young woman named Hannah (Emma Stone), the only woman to resist his advances. Not wanting to watch Cal keep drowning his sorrows night after night, Jacob agrees to teach him his trade so that he can have the confidence to earn Emily back. Because Emily is the only woman Cal has ever been with, Cal doesn't have much experience, so Jacob gives Cal a makeover and has him watch his tricks at the bar.
On Cal's first attempt to seduce a woman, he meets a teacher named Kate (Marisa Tomei), who rejects his awkward advances. Initially told not to talk about himself, he alienates her, but then begins to mention his marital problems when prodded to talk about himself. She's impressed with his honesty which she finds *********************ing and she ends up going to his appartment and having sex with him. After that, Cal manages to successfully seduce multiple women night after night. He meets Emily for the first time since the divorce at a parent teacher conference at school. Cal admits that he got lazy during their marriage and should have fought to keep her. However, the teacher they are meeting with turns out to be Kate, who berates Cal for not calling her. Emily learns of Cal's recent womanizing, to which he responds he's been doing it to try and move on. Emily leaves in disgust and begins dating David.
Meanwhile, Hannah, a law student, is about to graduate and is expecting a marriage proposal from her boyfriend Richard (Josh Groban). Hannah's best friend Liz (Liza Lapira), however, doesn't think she is happy with Richard and thinks she should have hooked up with Jacob the night the two met to be more adventurous. On the night she is expecting the proposal, Richard instead extends a job offer at his law firm. When Hannah asks about an engagement, Richard says he would like some time to think about it, at which point Hannah promptly breaks up with Richard and heads back to the bar where she met Jacob. She finds him there flirting with another woman, but nevertheless kisses him in front of everybody and asks him to take her back to his apartment. The two are about to have sex, but end up staying up all night talking about themselves, Jacob mentioning his wealth had come from his deceased father. Feeling different after the experience, Jacob starts a relationship with Hannah, distancing himself from Cal as a result.
Cal's 13-year-old son Robbie (Jonah Bobo) is in love with his 17-year-old babysitter, Jessica Riley (Analeigh Tipton), and makes numerous grand gestures to try and win her, claiming that there is not much of an age difference. Jessica is not only repulsed by Robbie's advances, but also harbors a crush on Cal and tells Robbie that she likes someone else so that he will stop. After learning of Cal's new ways, Jessica, on the advice of a classmate, takes naked photos of herself to send to Cal. Robbie tells Cal that he believes Jessica is his soulmate just like he believes Emily is Cal's soulmate. One night, when Cal is maintaining the backyard of his house, which he has been secretly doing since the divorce, he sees Emily making a call to him through the window, asking him how to restart the pilot light for the water heater in the basement. Seeing that she is not in the basement, Cal believes she is still in love with him and decides to win her back.
Cal and the kids create a makeshift mini golf in their backyard to remind Emily of their first date. During the gathering, Jacob and Hannah show up at the house unexpectedly. Hannah is revealed to be Cal and Emily's daughter, who was conceived when they were seventeen. Cal is upset that Jacob hooked up with Hannah. At that moment, Jessica's father Bernie (John Carroll Lynch) arrives and attacks Cal, having seen the naked pictures of Jessica in an envelope addressed to Cal, believing him to be sleeping with Jessica. Jessica arrives and tells her father that they are not having sex and that Cal knew nothing of the pictures. Robbie, however, gets upset that Cal is Jessica's secret crush. David also arrives to return Emily's jacket from a previous date. Jacob responds by attacking David for stealing Emily away from Cal. Cal, Jacob, David, and Bernie then get into a scuffle which is soon broken up by the police, after which Cal leaves everyone in frustration.
Cal starts spending his time at the bar again. One day at the bar, while drinking by himself at 2:30 pm, he gets a visit from Jacob. Jacob confides that he is in love with Hannah and claims to have similar feelings as Cal toward Emily for the first time in his life. Cal, however, cannot approve of their relationship because of his womanizing ways.
At Robbie's eighth grade graduation, he is the Salutatorian and gives a speech about how he no longer believes in true love and soulmates. Cal stands up and claims that Robbie is not saying what he believes. Cal begins to recount his courtship with Emily to the audience, saying she was the only woman he had ever been with since high school. He says that while he will never know if things will work out, he will never give up hope on Emily. With audience applause, Robbie reaffirms his love for Jessica. After the ceremony, the family meets outside. Cal finally approves of Jacob and Hannah's relationship, but jokingly warns that he bought a gun just in case. Jessica, finally flattered by Robbie's declaration of love, gives him the nude photos of herself to get him through high school until she feels he is old enough to date her. Cal and Emily have a laugh talking about the events that have transpired the past year, hinting at a possible reconciliation as Robbie looks on at them and grins.
